----.----:----.----|----.----:----.----|----.----:----.----|----.----:----.----|----.----:----.----|----.----:----.----|---*.----:--] This document is up at http://www.psiphi.org/tmp/sector001/20040128 for your minutes-writing convenience. :-) Reunion Committee: * Kevin and I met on Saturday; talked with Ryan on-line Saturday, too. Ideas: + Start earlier in the day with things for the general public, continue in the evening with more Psi Phi-specific stuff. + Talent show -- Psi Phi active/alumni members who can play an instrument, sing, act, write, improvise, etc. may do so. + Item to distribute at the reunion might be a Psi Phi pin. + Costume contest? + Trivia contest? + Psi Phi Scrapbook -- I will request from alumni photos they may have of Psi Phi events (or just of Psi Phi people), any amusing/interesting stories about Psi Phi, to be compiled and ready for the reunion. Also, going through old minutes to find important dates and events from our past. Might be one nicely bound copy to keep, might get lots of copies to hand out, might make nice copies available for ordering, depending on how much stuff is gathered, cost, interest, etc. + Have someone take pictures and/or video at the reunion, for posterity. * Maybe Bradley would fund all or part of the event? Check with SABRC about deadlines, criteria, etc. (Ryan did some.) * T-Shirts -- Want to have them ready to sell at the Reunion itself; also take orders to be shipped later. Another design idea, go back to "Science Fiction's Last, Best Hope" as a slogan. Might include this on Psi Phi pin, too? * Kevin checking on non-profit status of club in relation to university (i.e. maybe we're considered non-profit just by being a Bradley club). If considered so, can get lower sales tax on certain items. * Ryan checking on which weekends Ballrooms are available; also Alumni Dining Room. * Philip Jose Farmer, noted sci-fi author (86 years old--born 1/26/1918), lives in Peoria. He won three Hugo Awards (1953, 67, 72), and was nominated for four more (60, 61, 66, 74). He won the Nebula Award in 2001; nominated for two more (1967, 74). He won the World Fantasy Award in 2001: Lifetime Achievement Award. He's written 56 books (the most recent published in 1999) and 88 short stories (most recent published in 2002). Working on another novel now, "a noir mystery with a flavor of the absurd and much about killer parrots", possibly to be titled "The Rain Crow" or "Aromatic Swine Drive". And planning another one, set in Peoria perhaps slightly in the future, called "The Fanged and Glittering One". Maybe he could be invited to speak at the event? (Has anyone read any of his books or stories? Opinions?) * Meet again this weekend? Constitution Reform Committee: * (Joel and I) Met Tuesday night, worked on Committees Bylaw. Next meeting, next Tuesday at 10pm in the library. Acquisition Committee: * CRC needs input about what this committee does. To find out, this committee should do something. :-) Nagus: * Received Amazon.com money today $554.49 deposited into account; new total is $1142.59. CORRECTION: The previous balance in the account was $588.10, NOT $588.34 as reported last week. Where did 24c go? * Amazon.com quarter-to-date referral fees: $132.26. At this rate, ~450 by end of quarter. First quarter traditionally slowest, not a lot of especially high-profile Trek books/DVDs out now, so even slower. (people) * Howard A. Anderson, Jr., creator of the "transporter beam" visual effect on Star Trek, will receive the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Presidents Award, for "extraordinary contributions to advancing the art of filmmaking", on 2/8. (movie) * Current and upcoming sci-fi (or sci-fi-ish) movies: + "The Butterfly Effect" is now playing. + 3/26: "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" + 4/16: "The Punisher" + 5/07: "Van Helsins" + 5/31: "Shrek 2" + 6/04: "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" + 6/11: "The Chronicles of Riddick" (sequel to "Pitch Black"), "The Stepford Wives" (remake) + 6/18: "Around the World in 80 Days" + 6/30: "Catwoman" * Apparently, HP&tPoA will be about two and a half hours long, and might be PG-13. * Halle Berry had accident on "Catwoman" set Saturday, but it was minor and she's back to work now. (television) * Enterprise will be moved from 7pm to 8pm between March 10 and April 14. In the 7pm timeslot, animated sci-fi-ish series "Game Over" will air, followed by the not-quite-cancelled-yet sitcom "The Mullets". However, Enterprise will be in reruns those six weeks, so by the time Enterprise returns for new episodes, it might be moved back to its regular time. (books) * Keith R.A. DeCandido is editing a new "Captain's Table" anthology, featuring nine first-person stories told by: + Jonathan Archer of the Enterprise (NX-01) + Demora Sulu of the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-B) + Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Stargazer + William T. Riker of the U.S.S. Titan + Kira Nerys of Deep Space 9 + Chakotay of the U.S.S. Voyager + Elizabeth Shelby of the U.S.S. Trident + David Gold of the U.S.S. da Vinci + Klag of the I.K.S. Gorkon Titles and authors are TBA. (comics) * The sixty "Star Trek" comic books published by Gold Key from 1967 to 1979 are going to be reprinted in a series of trade paperback collections. Many are extremely rare, though story and art quality apparently varied wildly. First eight comics will be collected and published in March. Others to follow. (items) * Amazing Spider-Man #503 by jms. * "Spider-Man" animated series on 2 DVDs. * TV Guide for next week (on sale now) -- features "Angel".
